A post at the official Ozzfest web site says that an announcement about this year's edition of the festival will be made on Friday night (April 30). According to The Pulse of Radio, the timing of the news seems odd, since Friday nights are considered a "news dump" where things are announced purposely to gather the least attention. OZZY OSBOURNE will, of course, headline the show, and sources tell The Pulse of Radio that one rumored main stage configuration includes METALLICA, ALICE IN CHAINS, DOWN and MASTODON.
Names rumored for the second stage include BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OTEP, KITTIE, 36 CRAZYFISTS and others.
***Important note: None of the above-listed rumored Ozzfest acts have actually been officially confirmed for this year's event.***
Ozzfest has not been a traveling festival since 2007's "free" edition. The show morphed into a one-off event in Dallas in 2008, also featuring METALLICA, before taking 2009 off.
There's no indication yet of whether festival mastermind Sharon Osbourne plans any innovations for this year's show.
Ozzfest faces increased competition this summer from the third annual Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour, as well as the new and not yet officially announced Uproar tour.
METALLICA has overseas tours booked for most of 2010 and has not performed in North America since the end of last year.
