METALLICA, LINKIN PARK, EVANESCENCE Among Nominees At AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

METALLICA and LINKIN PARK will be competing for the "Favorite Alternative Music Artist" award at the 31st annual American Music Awards, which will be presented Nov. 16 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and air live from 8-11 p.m. on ABC. Also nominated for the same award are COLDPLAY.

EVANESCENCE were nominated in the "Favorite Pop Rock Album" category for their double-platinum major-label debut, "Fallen". They will be going up against NORAH JONES, KID ROCK and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. ROCK also received a nod in the "Favorite Male Artist" category alongside "American Idol" runner-up CLAY AIKEN, JOHN MAYER and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.

AMA winners are selected by a national sampling of about 20,000 people.
