METALLICA Donates $279,000 To Romanian Pediatric Hospital

According to Reuters, METALLICA has donated 250,000 euros (approximately $279,000) to a Romanian association building the country's first pediatric oncology hospital.

The band made the donation to Daruieste Viata (Give Life) ahead of the its sold-out concert on Wednesday (August 14) at Arena Națională in Bucharest.

Inspired by Mastercard's €1,000,000 donation toward the Daruieste Viata project earlier this year, the donation — consisting of a sponsoring worth €200,000 from Mastercard and Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) and METALLICA's own contribution of €50,000 — was made through the band's non-profit foundation All Within My Hands, which was established in 2017 as a means to invest in the people and places that have supported the band.

"The donation made by METALLICA has a special meaning to our project," said Carmen Uscatu, President of Daruieste Viata Association. "On one hand, their music inspires and touches so many Romanians, and at the same time so many Romanians are inspired by and contribute to the establishing of the first Pediatric Oncology and Radiotherapy Hospital in Romania, in order to give children with cancer a chance to live. On the other hand, the contribution of Mastercard, that pledged a sponsorhip worth €1,000,000 to #NoiFacemUnSpital initiative, has been a real drive in inspiring a legend like METALLICA to contribute to our cause as well. We are grateful to all who make this project possible."

Added Cosmin Vladimirescu, country manager, Mastercard Romania: "Several months ago, we announced that Mastercard is becoming the innovation partner of the first Paediatric Oncology and Radiotherapy Hospital in Romania and that we will facilitate the arrival of the latest medical technologies through our activities, campaigns and partnerships. Today, METALLICA, a band that inspires billions of people around the world, joined our efforts and starts something priceless. For me, today is, once again, about believing that something can be done, and there will be no impossible dreams. And work towards that goal with others who find it within themselves to join your cause. Nothing else matters."

Said Sergiu Manea, BCR CEO: "METALLICA represents the state of mind of several generations who have decided to be themselves: confident to express freely, open to the world, ready to overcome any limits. METALLICA generations have now seen their idols giving back confidence and hope. And this happened towards the wonderful people from the Daruieste Viata Association, true models of ambition and resilience in overcoming, like them, any barriers. They all inspire us to think beyond appearances, to work together and to always believe in the power of the community to find resources for the common good. It is an honor to support them."

In its first six months of operation, All Within My Hands donated more than $750,000 to local food banks around the world — a practice the band and the Foundation continued on METALLICA's recent North American and European tours. They've donated at least $10,000 to local food banks in every city and met dedicated people who focus their daily lives on helping others.

Back in May 2018, METALLICA drummer and co-founder Lars Ulrich visited the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank to give a helping hand alongside some dedicated and loyal METALLICA fans and hard-working volunteers.

Ulrich created a PSA for the food bank in partnership with All Within My Hands. He urged locals to offer a helping hand to those suffering from hunger.

The final leg of the European tour starts with a very special donation. Together with the fans attending #MetInBucharest...
